|Title:||Agriculture Land Use Changes-Socioeconomic Impact: Case of Khuangnung and Khominthang Village, Churachandpur, Manipur|
Agriculture Land Use-Manipur
|Publisher:||TISS Guwahati Campus|
|Abstract:||This study examines the ongoing land use change in Manipur by focusing on the case of Khuangnung and Khominthang Villages in Churachandpur district. It finds agricultural land getting converted into settlements due to migration of the people from the hills to plains. This has created a peri-urban area around the main township. The study also reveals that this migration is due to unequal development in the state (between the hills and the plains) that pushes tribes on the hill move down to plains for better life opportunities. The dissertation also attempts to understand the socio-ecological impacts of this ongoing population movement and land use change|
