Abstract: The study reveals the fact of existing scenario of Gangtok ’s transport system in relation to the surrounding environment . A s a matter of fact , transport has significant detrimental effects on the built environment and on individual lives . T he road transport is one of the main source of pollution in cities, and in case of Gangtok , the rising number of vehicle and commercialized tourism sector has created problem of traffic and congestion . There is no proper mechanism with State government to check vehicular pollution as authorities issuing the Pollution under Control (PUC) certificate operates through private players where authenticity remain a critical question. Added to it, t he commuters ’ perception highlight the contemporary challenges face d due to traffic congestion during working hours.
