Beyond the conventional definition of 'productive workers', most women 'farmers' are employed either as agricultural labourers or unpaid workers in family farm enterprise. Yet, even today the position of women in these areas is determined by the socio-cultural construct of society-often patriarchal in nature, making them considerably vulnerable risks and insecurities of living due to lack of ownership of resources within the household. This has further accentuated gender disparities in rural economy.
