Abstract: Legendry pragjyotishpur, today’s Guwahati is surrounded by hills and hillocks giving it a bowl shape structure falling in between 26010’25 north latitude and 91045’0 east latitude making it suitable for paddy cultivation also because of its tropical climate and good rainfall. Being a fastest developing city few major environmental problems like flash flood is effecting its population severely. Human activities like construction of institutions, roads , dwelling houses malls, apartments, buildings converting its wetland surface into a concrete jungle. This concrete jungle is not letting or not channelizing the rainwater to get mingle with the groundwater hence causing flash flood as well as ground water scarcity. This research is all about the study of people’s perception on flash flood in Guwahati, Assam. In this study peoples perception plays an important role to identify the loopholes in present urban planning and also brings out the ground reality of peoples well being during flash flood.
