Abstract: This research is aimed at proving the existence of the phenomenon of “informality/informalization” irrespective of the workplace, sector or industry. This research has been conducted in the apparel retail industry, as it being part of the service industry caters to a diverse clientele and performs a varied mix of labour (aesthetic, emotional, intellectual, physical). The research is being posited to be based on an interpretivist and constructivism approach and evaluates the phenomenon of “informalization” under the framework of deterritorialization and spatialization. The research attempts to establish the phenomenon and identify the factors under the themes of exploitation, discrimination and harassment that lead to the de- evolution of formal employment to informal employment.
